Spartan Aircraft began producing various models of airplanes in the 1920’s. In 1935, they developed their seventh model, an all metal, low wing, high performance monoplane. Many vintage aviation enthusiasts are very familiar with that design, the Spartan model 7W, generally referred to as the Spartan Executive. Thirty four were produced and for many, it is the only Spartan they have ever seen. Two additional airframes were built that are quite similar to the 7W, but they are distinctly different. In addition, a variety of designations have been used by Spartan when referring to both production and concept models that adds to the confusion. This section of the site contains information about the two additional airframes and provides clarification regarding the myriad of model designations.
